Integrated Information Theory (IIT) is a scientific framework proposing that consciousness arises from integrated, intrinsic cause-effect power, measured mathematically by a value called phi (Φ). Initially proposed by Giulio Tononi in 2004, it evaluates how a system's components work together as an irreducible whole.
